After carrying out my third (of the day) container of wild bird food – I thought it might be a good time to tell folks about the birds they can usually see here at the lodge. We actually have two sets of birds – the birds up by the lodge (that frequent the feeders) and the birds that cruise the river (we refer to them as “cruising the river highway”).
At this time of year we are seeing the following at the feeders: Black chinned and Anna’s Hummingbirds (yes, believe it or not, they have hung around all winter), California Quail, (they are my favorite) Varied Thrush, Chickadees, Pine Siskins, Juncos, Stellar Jays, Spotted Towhee, Nuthatches, Starlings and Brewer’s Blackbirds (which do nest around here and can be VERY noisy!).
And, what can you see on the “river highway” now? Canadian Geese, Bald Eagles, Blue Heron, Kingfishers, Mergansers (ducks) – hopefully the Osprey will be back soon!
